If you're going to have an extremely common first name, it helps to have a more unusual last name to balance it out. Marys are a dime a dozen but Mary (my last name here) are few and far between.

Not much chance of mistaken identity for any of them, then. It helps when only 4023 people in the entire country share your last name.
