Pride and joy

Gosh, I'm silly. The amount of pride I take in these boys is probably not healthy or something. It's the same kind of pride you'd feel if a member of your family did something really spectacular or was super-talented or very good-looking. On the message boards I'm involved with I tend to use pictures of the lads often as either my signature pic or my avatar and I actually feel proud when people say something nice about the picture, or even when I see it on each of my posts -- as if I had anything to do with it! I can't help it, though. I want to show them off. I guess I just like to hear them admired and given due credit. When we were seeing 1964 I was looking around and my heart swelled when I realized how many people were there in honor of J, P, G and R. I sat there thinking, "This is for you, boys. Are you proud? You should be. 40 years later we're still singing the songs and remembering. I'M proud of you and proud to be a part of this."

And that's as mushy as I get on Valentine's Day!

A new fave

I have a new favorite picture of Paul:

*faint*

That's just one of a bunch of good ones I found doing a Google image search the other night. I'm always on the lookout for neat pictures of the lads that I don't have already.

Hurrah!

The kids unearthed my Beatles Live at the BBC CD! I had disc one in a CD wallet but the case, with disc two inside, had gone missing. It was making me insane because I have been really wanting to listen to disc two and haven't been able to find it. It's a good thing I didn't have any extra money because I'd have gone to Amazon and bought a new set.

It's funny; when I first bought the album (probably 8 years ago) I didn't listen to it much. As in, I probably only listened to it once or twice through and then didn't again for a very long time. I wasn't really into hearing the Beatles sing non-Beatle songs. But I've grown a deep appreciation for just that over the years and now I love the album. I guess that's because I now want to hear every single thing the Beatles ever recorded, whether it was a song or just them talking. (Speaking of which, the little bits of them being interviewed in between the songs are my favorite parts of the album! Favorite John quote: "I'm John and I too play the guitar. Sometimes I play the fool." LOL)

Also unearthed in the excavation was my alternate Revolver album so I plan to listen to it and BBC disc two this afternoon on my headphones. I can't think of a finer group of people to spend the day with.

Two things

1. Paul not winning a Grammy last night? MESSED. UP. But not surprising. I stand by previous comments I made that this indicates the decline of Western civilization.

2. I was looking at an article on Salon.com and there was a link in the sidebar, the text of which said, "Would the Beatles have happened without John Lennon?" In a word: NO. Or, to be more emphatic, HELL NO. They wouldn't have happened the way they happened if any of the four had been missing. I will go toe-to-toe with anyone on that issue.

Just added

I imported all my Beatle-y entries from my regular blog to here. Do take a moment and browse, if you're interested. They are all categorized and everything.

Grammy night

Okay, I loathe rap music and have absolutely no interest in it AT ALL.....but I have to say I would kiss Jay-Z if had a chance. He's wearing a John Lennon shirt on the Grammys right now. And Linkin Park? I will respect them forever for doing a duet of "Yesterday" with Paul. Anyone who shows respect for my boys automatically gets on my good list for life. (And "covering Beatles songs because you think you can do it better" is NOT covered under my definition of respect. The Linkin Park thing was okay because Paul was in on it.)

Completely unrelated to the Beatles, but since I'm on the subject of the Grammys: Isn't it about time for Madonna to start wearing clothes? I mean, I like her, I really do. Always have. And I'm not saying she looks bad. She looks great. But, cripes, Madonna, you are 46 years old. Put some damned pants on. We've been looking at your ass for 20 years now. It's not that much of a thrill any more.

Oh yeah, and Paul? Looks FAAAAAABULOUS!!!! If he ever wants to trade for a newer model, well....call me. We'll talk.

I never realized

The other week I was listening to "The Beatles A-Z," a program on XM Radio's 60's station. They have interview clips mixed in with all the other things they play. One of the clips was from a 1980 interview with John and I was stunned to hear it and realize that he was starting to lose his Liverpool accent by that time. He was no longer rolling his "r"s at all; he pronounced them like an American. Which makes sense, as he'd been living in the U.S. for, what, eight or nine years by then?

I had to think for a moment why I'd never noticed this before and then it struck me that it's because that was probably the first time I'd ever heard audio of John speaking following his house-husband period. Thinking it over, I'm pretty sure all the interview clips I've ever heard/seen before now have been circa 1974 or prior. It made me sad that there were all those years where he was saying things that no one will ever hear now. I know that's strange. Also it made me sad because that was it. How he sounded in that 1980 clip, that's how he'll sound forever. There's no way we'll ever know what his voice would have sounded like in 1990 or 2000 or 2005. I hate that that's where it ends. There should be more.

Grammy-bound

I just found out Paul will be performing at the Grammys! I'm so danged excited! I was going to watch anyway because of him being nominated but this will make it that much more worth while. I'm always thrilled to be able to see him live, in real-time, not pre-recorded some unknown amount of time ago. I guess he will sing "Fine Line" since that is what he is nominated for in the Male Vocal category.

See you soon, Pauly!
